…keeping her coalition going and saving the euro…..She is not going to be able to do both.

With the EU now being called, in derogatory terms a “liability union”, “it is not clear” how Merkel can convince her troops to approve her rescue programme. Every additional million that flows to Athens destroys the credibility of her centre party.

and the odds she chooses the Euro look to be between slim and nil…

In the meantime, more and more people within the governing parties have been talking about holding a referendum in Germany on the European Union. Rainer Brüderle, the floor leader of the business-friendly Free Democrats, Merkel’s junior coalition partner, said on Friday that there could come a point “when a referendum on Europe becomes necessary.”

Christy Clark – “Devout” Anglican…

Christy Clark’s vanishing act follows Enbridge pipeline posturing

How much more damage could she possibly wreak..

Since the premiers’ meeting, the Premier’s only relatively prominent public appearance was on the religious TV talk show 100 Huntley Street, on which Ms. Clark, a devout Anglican, professed faith in the Bible to see her through tough times.

With luck she’s cloistered herself in some nunnery or other to seek guidance on her pipeline blasphemy...

We are unsure what exactly in what a “devout Anglican” (Episcopalian for our American friends) believes these days…but it would be unsurprising to find Christy sharing the pew with the odd transgendered worshiper these days.

Three US Marines were gunned down  today by Obama’s cousins in Afghanistan…

An Afghan police officer shot and killed three U.S. Marines after sharing a meal with them before dawn Friday and then fled into the desolate darkness of southern Afghanistan, the third attack on coalition forces by their Afghan counterparts in a week.

The Commander in Chief was suitably moved…and will be hosting a Muslim dinner tonight…

In the evening, the President will host an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan in the State Dining Room. This will be the fourth Iftar that President Obama has hosted, continuing the tradition of hosting Iftars that began annually under President Clinton and was continued by President George W. Bush. The invited guests include elected officials, religious and grassroots leaders in the Muslim American community, and leaders of diverse faiths and members of the diplomatic corps.
