A Happy Planet

26 Nov

The new HPI results show the extent to which 151 countries across the globe produce long, happy and sustainable lives for the people that live in them.

Apparently we’d all be happier living in Venezuela or Cuba than in Canada or the US – because in the eyes of the  folks at the “New Economics Foundation” -subsisting  in a “low carbon”, low consumption and high child mortality rate country makes you “happier” than shopping at Wal-Mart, driving your SUV and collecting unemployment for 99 weeks…

Each of the three component measures – life expectancy, experienced well-being and Ecological Footprint – is given a traffic-light score based on thresholds for good (green), middling (amber) and bad (red) performance.

You can use the handy map to calculate your personal “Happiness Index”..
