We dissociate ourselves from the actions of the radical fringe Jewish group that extended the invitation. We call for more events here in Toronto that will build up friendship and understanding between local Jews and Muslims.

Justin may not win the leadership, but he’ll get the most “likes”

Only one-third of Liberal supporters registered to vote in leadership so far

The party boasted last week that 294,000 people had signed up over the course of the leadership contest.

Most signed up free of charge, taking advantage of the party’s new supporter class, which was intended to broaden the Liberal base and engage more than just card-carrying, dues-paying members in the leadership vote.

While only a fraction so far have bothered to take the next step, spokeswoman Sarah Bain says the party is pleased with the number who’ve registered.

Still, the failure to register by two-thirds of supporters thus far suggests they have little attachment to the party, likely won’t vote for the next leader during the week of April 6 and may not prove to be particularly useful to the party after that.

Court decision a blow to free speech

…Whatcott broke no laws, assaulted no person and caused no material damage to any person or property.   He did, apparently, offend the sensibilities of an individual which, while not a civil or criminal offense, is a “human rights” offense, under Canada’s Pierre Trudeau-inspired Human Rights Commissions. Sticks, stones and now names can hurt you.

…In other words, our Supreme Court has ruled that because someone fears harm may be done by speech, but the extent of that harm is not demonstrable, no proof of harm is required to bring about the full force of the law.

Once we depended on the courts to protect us from the Crown.  It seems unlikely we can ever depend on the Crown to protect us from the court.  From now on, be careful what you say.

It might be interesting to know whether any of this is true — have Jews, for example, the most persistent target of hate speech through the ages, been “silenced”? — but apparently it does not matter: the government is not required to prove its case is true, and the defendant is not saved if his case is. At one point the Court muses that a failure to ban hate speech, in so far as it “silences” the targeted groups, may be “more rather than less damaging to freedom of expression.”

From which we may conclude that any government that relaxed such restrictions would soon find itself condemned by the Court — as a threat to free speech.

Security Intelligence Worried About Domestic Terrorism In Canada

Richard Fadden told the Canadian House of Commons that al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups had set up centers in many countries where they called for recruits from the West.

“In every single case there are Canadians who have joined them,” said Richard Fadden.

The head of the Intelligence Service said that his department was “following a number of cases where they think people might be inclined to acts of terrorism.”

There are huge benefits to health and every other measure one cares to choose when one becomes rich. These more than outweigh any damage from climate change. Goklany recognizes this all too well, and while he provides the numbers, only someone with an ideological agenda can fail to recognize this…

Long before help arrived, his front door started to give way to the kicking, and he retreated to his bedroom. He readied a gun.

He held what is called an SKS-D, which he legally owned. The semi-automatic rifle is supposed to hold only five bullets but Mr. Bishop fitted it with a 25-bullet “banana clip,” an illegal add-on that gives it a similar appearance to an AK-47.

The first man through the bedroom door carried a samurai sword. Another had a broken golf club…
