Statement from the Government of Canada regarding the repeal of (Australian) carbon tax

Our government knows that carbon taxes raise the price of everything, including gas, groceries, and electricity. Prime Minister Abbott has said that, in Australia, the repeal of the carbon tax will reduce the average household’s cost of living by (in Australian dollars) $550 a year, take $200 off household power bills and $70 off gas bills.

“Our government has reduced greenhouse gas emissions while protecting and creating Canadians jobs – greenhouse gas emissions are down since 2006, and we’ve created 1 million net new jobs since the recession – and we have done this without penalising Canadian families with a carbon tax.”

Now if we just fix BC…

The World Turns

Tony Abbott will become Australia’s Prime Minister. I’d like to second John O’Sullivan’s wise words on Mr Abbott’s conservatism: we’re not talking about a Cameronesque trimmer and opportunist here.

…it’s worth noting that Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Britain now all have prime ministers to the right of the US president…

“Women are clueless about politics”

9 Jul

No Shit…

The fact that women are more interested in Kim Kardashian than Stephen Harper is bad for democracy.

But Good for Trudeau and Obama...

But ask a different set of questions, and you’ll get a different gender gap. When is Grandma’s birthday? Who heads the school parents’ group? What are the new hours at the library? Which has more calories, a grilled chicken sandwich or a hamburger? What are the pros and cons of co-sleeping? How long have we been married?

CBC – “Everybody gets subsidies in this country in one way or another…”

29 May

What he means is:

“Everybody in this country subsidizes CBC in one way or another…”

CBC receives more than $1-billion annually in government subsidies to support its activities, which include radio, conventional and satellite television, and Internet services with programming in English and French and eight Aboriginal languages.

“Everybody gets subsidies in this country in one way or another,” Mr. Dark said. “What I would say is that our digital properties are commercial and we compete with folks in these markets for ad dollars and that’s how we support those assets.”

Only a state broadcaster can afford to turn down revenue…

“Idle No More” – Where a “Hunger Strike” is a Facebook Group…

After 4 Weeks, You’d Think She’d Have Shucked Off a Few Pounds

Canadian Press/Sean Kilpatrick

Chief Theresa Spence, who was previously best known for declaring states of emergency — arguably rooted in her own mismanagement —

As for Idle No More, the title is profoundly ironic. One of the main problems for native people is the idleness that comes with living on remote reserves such as Attawapiskat in Northern Ontario. However, the Idle No More movement is not aimed at attracting more jobs. In fact, it opposes the very legal changes — contained in Bill C-45 — that would facilitate development, such as making the leasing of reserve land easier, and loosening draconian environmental regulation (a process started last year with Bill C-38). Thus the movement might more appropriately be named “Idle Some More.”

Justin Trudeau – Lost in Translation

Are Canada’s low-information voters going elect another Trudeau? We’re just digging out from the mess the last Trudeau made…

Hurricane Sandy another sign of danger of global warming, Peter Kent says

The destruction and force of Hurricane Sandy has “focused minds” in the Conservative cabinet on the need to deal with global warming, says Canada’s environment minister.

Seriously? Surely Harper can find someone who can google….

Global Cooling – Climate and Weather Forecasting.

Over the last 10 years or so as new data have accumulated the general trend and likely future course of  climate change has become reasonably clear. The earth is entering a cooling phase which is likely to last about 30 years and possibly longer. The major natural factors  controlling climate change have also become obvious

An Inconvenient Truth: Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies along Sandy’s Track Haven’t Warmed in 70+ Years

The satellite-era sea surface temperature records indicates El Niño and La Niña events are the primary causes of the warming of global sea surface temperature anomalies over the past 30 years, not manmade greenhouse gases

Update and confirmation of ‘Global warming stopped 16 years ago’ aka ‘the pause’

The Met Office now confirms on its climate blog that no significant warming has occurred recently: ‘We agree with Mr Rose that there has only been a very small amount of warming in the 21st Century.’

Peter Kent – the logical result of the Canadian Media Establishment – most of what they know is wrong.  Too bad this guy made into government.

CUPE Conflicted – is it Harper or Israel they Hate Most?

13 Nov

Strange they’d bring Hitler into it…

Apparently the National Socialists over at CUPE don’t know about Godwin’s Law…

So let’s see…

The Harper government is asking public unions that confiscate money from their members to engage in political activities account for the union members’ money that the unions spend on those political activities. Such as Israel-Apartheid week…

And CUPE equates this new financial reporting requirement to Jews being sent to the ovens by Hitler…

Unfortunately  the media will agree.
